In Mathews, a total of 320 ballots were cast, or 4 percent of registered voters; in Gloucester, 1,057 votes were cast, or 3 percent of registered voters. Among voters in the two counties, Aaron Rouse was the top pick for lieutenant governor and Jay Jones for attorney general. Statewide, State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi appears to have narrowly defeated former Richmond mayor Levar Stoney in a six-person race to receive the party’s endorsement for lieutenant governor, while Jones, a former state Delegate and Assistant Attorney General, defeated Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor in the attorney general’s race, completing the ballot for the November general election.
