Pound Cake Contest returns to May Faire; new category

The annual Pound Cake Contest is part of May Faire again in 2026. The two-day May Faire festival, sponsored by the Mathews Museum, is on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. The pound cake contest has been part of May Faire since the first event in 2017. Chairman Karen Doremus said it will be held at the museum building, 200 Main Street, this year, where cakes will be judged and displayed for sale. A new category, for youth under 14, joins the categories of traditional and creative cakes, this year. For more information or to register, call Doremus at 804-725-7215. Other May Faire activities, on and near the court green, will include Maypole dances, musical entertainment, food and craft vendors, an archaeological dig by the Fairfield Foundation, children’s corner with live animals along with games, and demonstrations of crafts in bygone days.
