110 YEARS AGO Thursday, Oct. 21, 1909 from the Mathews Journal Owing to the introduction of automobiles in our county which has taken place so lately as to prevent the horses from becoming accustomed to them, and fearing in consequence some accident to our patrons during the crowded conditions of the highways caused by the County Fair. Therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Directors of the Southside Agricultural Association request the owners of machines to refrain from using them during the three days of the Fair, Oct. 27, 28, and 29, 1909. 100 YEARS AGO Thursday, Oct. 23, 1919 from the Gloucester Gazette Botetourt Field Day: On Friday, Oct. 31, a field day will be held at Botetourt High School.
