Plans being developed for July 4 fireworks show

The Mathews Fireworks Committee met on Sunday to plan this year’s Independence Day celebration, to be held on Saturday, July 4, at Mathews High School. This will be the 18th annual fireworks display sponsored by the committee.

Musical entertainment and concession sales will begin at 7 p.m., said committee spokesman Robin Dehoux. A shuttle bus will provide transportation from the parking lot at Thomas Hunter Middle School, where additional parking will be available, to the high school.

To help raise funds for the event, there will be raffle drawings for a gas grill, a television and a leaf blower. Raffle tickets will be available from any committee member, at Country Cuts or Cattail’s on Buckley Hall Road, or onsite the night of the fireworks display.

Contributions to help support the fireworks display can be mailed to Mathews Fireworks Committee, P.O. Box 11, Mathews, Va. 23109.
