Planners, supervisors to hold joint meeting Tuesday

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold three joint public hearings beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

Applications on the agenda include a request from Rite-Lite Signs for a conditional use permit to allow Food Lion to amend its conditional use permit to change the color of the lettering allowed on the sign.

There is also a request from Michael Gregg Construction Inc. for a conditional use permit to allow sand and gravel operations on two parcels zoned rural on Ridge Road, adjacent to the business’s current operations.

Finally, there is a request to amend the zoning ordinance as it relates to small scale alcohol production. The amendments would be to add a definition for alcohol production, to allow the use in the village mixed use district, and to add a section in the supplemental district regulations pertaining to alcohol production.
