Planners endorse home-based hair salon business in Cobbs Creek

The Mathews Planning Commission unanimously endorsed the establishment of a small, home-based hair salon Tuesday night after a joint public hearing with county supervisors.

Jessica Wagner has applied for a conditional use permit to operate the business out of her home on Buckley Hall Road at Cobbs Creek.

Supervisors also expressed general approval of the endeavor during the meeting in the historic courthouse, but will not vote on the matter until the board meets on Oct. 25.

Open dump ordinance

After supervisors adjourned, the commission discussed making changes to the ordinance governing open dumps. An open dump is currently defined in the county ordinance as “any area of 100 square feet or more where trash, garbage, scrap material, or any solid waste is placed or any area where hazardous or infectious wastes are placed or stored in a manner not in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.”
