Jeremy Pilkerton of Loveville, Maryland, has come close to a Victory Lap Pro Late Model win multiple times over the last two years, but it all came together on Saturday as Pilkerton held off current point leader Aus- tin Hubbard of Bridgeville, Delaware, to score that career first victory at the Virginia Motor Speedway in Middlesex.
Pilkerton would take the lead on lap 8 from Matthew Hildebrand of Stanardsville after getting to the inside out of turn three.
“We have come so close here on so many occasions, it feels great to finally get this win,” he said in victory lane.
Rounding out the top five in the 30-lap feature were Austin Hubbard, Corey Almond, Matthew Hildebrand and Ray Love Jr.
In other action on Saturday, Ray Kable of Sykesville, Maryland, swept both the qualifying and the feature in the 25-lap Budweiser Modified race; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg got his fourth win in as many tries in the 25- lap Truckin’ Thunder Sports- man division; and Johnny Brooks of Aylett posted his second win in a row in the 20-lpa Collision One Limited Stock Car race.
The speedway will return to racing on Saturday, Aug. 6, when it hosts the $20,000-to- win, Ernie Shelton’s 46th Annual USA 100 featuring the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. The Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions will also be in action.
Spectator and competitor gates for Aug. 6 will open at 5 p.m., with on-track action starting at 6 with hot laps. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Mo- tor Speedway is a half-mile dirt oval track is located on Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda.
