Three Gloucester County residents—Gail and Rick Shutt of Hayes, Gary O’Neil of Gloucester—won medals in pickleball at last month’s Virginia Senior Games in Lynchburg. Gail Shutt and O’Neil won silver in mixed doubles; Rick Shutt and his partner, Pat Russo of Toano, placed third. In the women’s doubles, Gail Shutt and Russo won silver; Rick Shutt and his men’s doubles partner, Ed Spain of Williamsburg, placed third. The top four winning teams qualify to compete in next summer’s National Senior Games in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The group also traveled later that month to compete in the District of Columbia’s Senior Games. Rick Shutt and Russo won gold in mixed doubles, while Gail Shutt and O’Neil placed second. Gail Shutt and Russo won silver in women’s doubles, and Rick Shutt and O’Neil brought home gold in men’s doubles.
