Lady Dukes celebrate three all-state selections

Three Gloucester High School varsity softball team members received all-state selections for their stellar seasons.
Sophomore pitcher Autumn Cookson was named to first team all-state, while junior outfielder Hannah Horsley and sophomore Tessa Carteret were named to second team all-state.

Cookson ended her season with a 14-1 record with an earned run average of 1.02 and an opponent batting average of .116. She struck out 169 batters while issuing 23 walks in 89 innings pitched. Offensively, Cookson hit .506 with 41 RBIs. She recorded nine doubles, five triples and two home runs with 52 runs scored.

Horsley hit .564 during her junior season, driving in 45 RBIs. She hit 16 doubles, one triple and four home runs while also scoring 52 runs. Horsley spent most of the season in centerfield, but also served the team behind the plate as catcher.

Carteret, who played shortstop, was named to second team all-state as the designated player. She hit .506 with 37 runs scored and recorded five doubles and a triple. Carteret also had 47 RBIs during her sophomore season.

Gloucester ended its season with a record of 24-1 after falling to Jefferson Forest in the state semifinals. This was the first time the Lady Dukes had advanced to the final four.

In an additional honor for the Lady Dukes, the varsity softball head coach David “Red” Lindsay was named all-regional Coach of the Year.
