Perrindise Marina and Club at Hayes undergoing renovations

Perrindise Marina and Club, formerly Crown Pointe Marina, is currently undergoing renovations to the property located on Cooks Landing Lane, Hayes.

The property is owned by Mac and J.C. Casale and Dean Tsamouras. Construction of a new restaurant, a second location of Hole in the Wall (the first is on Gwynn’s Island), is also in the works, with an anticipated completion by late this year.

“We own 11 restaurants. We have been doing it for 38 years,” said Mac Casale, referring to his and his wife’s involvement in the business. “So, we bought the marina with the hope of putting the restaurant in there. That was the major deciding factor in purchasing that property. So we are excited about it. It’s been a massive undertaking. It’s taken almost two years to get all of the permits and satisfy all of the different departments, but it will be all well worth it in the end.”

Tsamouras and the Casales have owned the property for the last two years and have been working to complete the renovations to the marina since 2023. Renovations to the upcoming Hole in the Wall Restaurant began in 2024.

The Hole in the Wall restaurant will be similar to its other location in Mathews, but will have what Mac Casale describes as “more of a Cuban, Caribbean vibe to it.”

“This one will stand on its own,” he said. “It will have kind of a Cuban, Caribbean vibe to it, which will not be exclusive but will dominate some of the specials and some of the menu items. So, we are trying to bring a little bit of a different vibe to the area so it’s not like the other restaurants that are here.”

Casale said that it will also have a pool bar, which will be the first in the area.

It is anticipated that it will be completed later this year.

Casale also talked about renovations to the marina itself. He said that the marina was first built in 1974. Renovations to the marina have included rebuilding all 12 docks and putting in eight floating docks. He also said that extensive money was spent on shoreline restoration as well as rebuilding the infrastructure.

Keith Miles, a manager at the marina, said that most of the construction is being done by themselves.

“One of the big things when it comes to the construction and the design, we are actually doing most of the stuff in house,” said Miles. “Most of the stuff, we are doing ourselves.”

Mac said that they do have some subcontractors to do more specialty things that they cannot do themselves.

There are also plans to get the fuel dock back up and running.

“We know that the fuel dock is a really high-demand product or service that a lot of boaters want and need,” said Harmony Heywood, one of the managers at the marina. “Because when you’re out in the water and you’re out in the bay you need a place to fuel up so you can keep going on about your day. It’s something that we look forward to bringing back for boaters to be able to use and enjoy.”

The marina will consist of 217 slips with 70 dry slips. A brochure for the Perrindise Marina and Club explained that the number of slips that it has makes it one of the bigger marinas in the area. The marina accommodates up to 65 vessels with drafts up to six feet.

“We are hoping also to do something a little different. We are going to be selling some of the slips so that people can actually own a piece of the waterfront in one of the sections,” the brochure stated.

Visitors can enjoy amenities such as in-ground swimming pools and floating aqualodges, which are like Airbnbs with laundry areas as well as showers.

Mac Casale said that the marina has a service yard for all boating needs, but they hope to add to additional services not currently available.

The service yard will provide services all year round such as routine maintenance, media blasting, bottom painting, winterizing. The service yard will also specialize in major repairs, detailing, and haul-out for vessels up to 15 tons.

“This is our only business in Gloucester,” said Casale. “We have businesses in Topping and Locust Hill, and Mathews. Those are our Virginia businesses, but I have never had nor has my wife ever had any business in Gloucester, so we are looking forward to being in that area. We are also looking forward to trying to broaden as well. We are right there by the Coleman bridge; Yorktown, Williamsburg, surrounding areas; we hope that the restaurant will appeal to multiple areas.”

Future plans

Some plans in place for the future for the marina include an RV park, an event center and possibly a game center with game ball machines and a spa.

Mac explained that another five acres of land had been purchased. The land purchased is on both sides of the marina as well as adjoining the marina. “It will be utilized in the next expansion,” he said. “We hope that this marina revitalizes this area.”
