Perfect weather prevails at Mathews May Faire

Clear skies and balmy temperatures marked this year’s May Faire in Mathews County, bringing many people out to stroll the Mathews Court Green, visit art and craft booths, have lunch from a food truck, and listen to music.

Festival co-chairs John Caramia and Cindy Roman both expressed pleasure with the way the day went, from the crowd of around 2,000 who attended to the entertainment.

“It went very well,” said Caramia. “I was very pleased with the crowd, and people came through the museum constantly.”

Caramia praised the Thomas Hunter Middle and Mathews Elementary band students who performed on the Court Green much of the day, including THMS student Hunter Owens, who played the guitar and sang.

“They did a very nice job,” he said of the student musicians.

Around 200 people visited the Mathews Historical Museum, which was the sponsoring organization, said Caramia. A tea held at the museum for teacher retirees was successful, he said, with many of the participants staying ...
