PAULINE TRIMPI

Pauline Trimpi, 84, died peacefully at her home in Gloucester Point, Va., on Feb. 24, 2013.

She had lived for many years in the home that she and her late husband, Bob, a distinguished former NASA scientist, had built overlooking the York River.

Upon hearing the news of her passing, a close family friend said, “Pauline was a remarkable woman; gracious, caring, able, beautiful and strong. She was also a formidable person and one of substance; well-read, widely-traveled, well-informed and firm in her convictions. She had broad interests and could speak entertainingly about nearly anything, from art to football. She made a lasting impression on all of us who knew her and we are going to miss her deeply.”

Mrs. Trimpi is notably remembered as a founder and longstanding board member of Hampton Roads Academy, which traces some of its origins to discussions and meetings that took place around her dining room table. Until her passing she had continued as a beloved and decades-long member of the Abingdon Episcopal Church choir, which will honor her by performing at her memorial service.

Mrs. Trimpi was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Littell Trimpi; her son, Robert William Trimpi, and her brothers, Benjamin Palumbo and Ralph Palumbo.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Trimpi, DVM; her sisters, Annette Rogers and Grace Hobelman; her many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Mrs. Trimpi’s memorial service will be Saturday morning, March 2, 2013 at 11 o’clock in historic Abingdon Episcopal Church, 4645 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester, Va., with the Rev. Sven L. vanBaars, Rector, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

Mrs. Trimpi’s family wishes to thank Pauline’s friends and relatives for their many kind expressions of care.

Donations in Pauline’s memory may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061, and will be gratefully received.
