A refresher on civics—from the national stage down to the local government level—kicked off the first Pathways to Leadership lecture last Thursday at The First United Baptist Church, hosted by the Gloucester NAACP. Open to the public and free of charge, the organization said its monthly series aims to empower community members with knowledge and engagement opportunities. About 20 attendees gathered to hear insights from retired government educator Warren Zuger (above) and Gloucester High School history and civics teacher Dianne Carter de Mayo (below), both bringing experience and energy to the discussion. The focus of next month’s lecture on Thursday, April 23, starting at 6 p.m. at the same location focuses on how county funds are received and dispersed. Guest speakers will be county treasurer Tara Thomas and Commissioner of Revenue JoAnne Harris. To register to attend and for more information check out the NAACP website (gloucesternaacp.org)....
