Page gears up for fall opening

Gloucester County School Board members got their first look last Thursday at the interior of the new Page Middle School under construction on T.C. Walker Road. The school holds 116,949 square feet and sits on about 30 acres of a 138-acre site owned by the board. It replaces the old Page school on Route 17 that was 95,468 square feet and situated on 32 acres. That school was built in 1953, devastated by a tornado in April 2011, and subsequently demolished. The new school will house about 550 students in grades six through eight, with each grade level having its own two-story wing of classrooms and collaborative work space. It will include a full-size basketball court, a 250-seat auditorium, media center, cafeteria, and soccer and softball fields. Substantial completion is expected during the second week of August at about the time furnishings are set to arrive. The school will open the doors to students on Sept. 8.
