Oyster gardeners to meet Jan. 27 at VIMS

Are you an oyster enthusiast or have you thought about becoming an oyster gardener? Then you might want to come to the Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association’s (TOGA) 2024 annual meeting. This informative event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 1-5 p.m. in Watermen’s Hall at the Gloucester Point campus of the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences.

According to Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the 2022-2023 Virginia oyster harvest was the most productive in over two decades. The TOGA program will feature a keynote by Dr. Roger Mann, professor at VIMS on Virginia’s Oyster Productivity over the last 25 years, who will tell us what is happening with oysters in the Chesapeake Bay.

The session will also include oyster gardener updates from the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and the Virginia Department of Health and a social reception to encourage networking with Master Oyster Gardeners.
