Temperatures soaring over 100 degrees last weekend caused many people to try to find refuge from the unbearable heat, as well as raise concerns about places where they believed not enough was being done. In one of those cases, several people took to social media to complain about conditions at Walter Reed Post Acute in Gloucester (formerly Walter Reed Nursing & Rehabilitation Center), claiming that the air conditioning was broken, forcing residents and staff to suffer through sweltering conditions. The Gazette-Journal reached out to the facility about these concerns, with administrator Samantha Tillery providing the following response: “Like much of the U.S. over the holiday weekend, Gloucester experienced a heatwave that had air conditioning systems working 24/7. At Walter Reed Post Acute, patient rooms have individual PTAC [Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner] units—all of which are operational and keeping our residents comfortable.
