North resident dies in RTV accident

At approximately 5:40 p.m. Saturday, the Virginia State Police was called to a two-vehicle accident on Route 14, eastbound, 3/4 of a mile east of Route 3 in Mathews, the VSP reported. A 2007 Toyota Tundra traveling eastbound on Route 14 ran off the road right and struck a Kubota RTV (rough terrain vehicle). Walter M. Strieter, 75, of North, was operating the RTV and suffered life-threatening injuries. Strieter was taken to Walter Reed Hospital where he later died of his injuries. The driver of the Toyota Tundra was charged with reckless driving. Notification has been made to family members.
