No solar farms on immediate horizon for Gloucester

Whatever happened to the solar farm proposal that was being discussed for Gloucester?

Last fall, county supervisors approved regulations that would allow for solar farms—facilities which collect energy with large numbers of photovoltaic panels that are linked to the regional power grid—to operate here. However, since then, no applications for a solar farm have been received, said planner Tripp Little.

And Dominion Virginia Power has had little to say in relation to the Gloucester sites, which have never been publicly identified. Spokesperson Daisy Pridgen said that Dominion’s criteria for selecting sites for solar farms is based on amount of available sunlight, size of parcels, accessibility, as well as other considerations.

Dominion did approve solar farms that are under construction in Powhatan, Louisa and Isle of Wight counties, Pridgen said. All are expected to be completed by the end of this year and have received approval from the State Corporation Commission...
