Newell named MOC Race Director

The Mathews Outdoor Club has announced the appointment of Lindsay Newell as the Mathews Marathon Race Director. The marathon, which has been dubbed, “The World’s Flattest Race Course,” will celebrate its sixth year on Oct. 17 and was recently certified by the USA Track & Field (USATF) as a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. A lifelong athlete and dedicated educator, Newell brings deep competitive experience and strong organizational leadership to the role. She began rowing in seventh grade and then went on to compete in cross country, track and soccer in high school. Newell continued her running career at Christopher Newport University, racing in cross country and track for all four years. A 1999 graduate of Mathews High School, she was inducted into the MHS Hall of Fame in 2023 in recognition of her athletic achievements.
