Mathews native Jonathan Lewis and Hampton Roads native Justin Atkins are the new owners of Southwind Pizza in Mathews.
Lewis has been at Southwind since October, when he joined former owner Dean Tsamouras as managing business partner. He said his goal from the beginning was to eventually purchase the restaurant. Then “angel investor” Atkins decided to come on board, and the time was right. The two men took officially took over as co-owners on June 1.
While Lewis will be responsible for day-to-day operations at Southwind, Atkins, an attorney in York County, will help with marketing and special events.
Southwind’s signature pizza and sandwich menu won’t change much, said Lewis. Instead, the daily special side of the menu is where he’ll express himself as a chef. He said his She Crab Soup has already proven to be popular, and he plans to add a Granny’s Big Burger series as well as some desserts, including his own Coconut Cream Pie.
