New engines

Two months after Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad received delivery of a new Engine 11 for Station 1, the new Engine 10 came in. It took three years to finally take delivery of both “very much needed” units, said fire prevention officer Tony Villani. Now, the department can retire the decades-old Engine 41 at Harcum and replace it with the former Engine 10, while the old cab-over Ford that was being used as a reserve vehicle at Station 6 will get the old Engine 11 as its reserve engine. Both the units that are being retired were outdated, with replacement parts no longer available, said Villani. “We need to have good equipment to serve the needs of the community,” he said. “We don’t want engines that break down on the way to a fire.”...
