New business ideas sprout from locals

Last week, the Gazette-Journal asked its Facebook followers one simple question: what business would you like to see in Gloucester and Mathews? This question sparked the biggest response the newspaper has received since it started implementing surveys online in November.

Nearly 900 people responded to the Google Form, posted on Facebook last Thursday. The top businesses locals want to see come to the area are Target (18.1 percent), Trader Joe’s (14.9 percent), bowling (12.5 percent), a craft store (such as Michaels, Joann Fabrics or Hobby Lobby, etc.; 6.5 percent), Whole Foods (5.3 percent), axe throwing (4.6 percent), Dunkin Donuts (4.2 percent), a steakhouse (like Texas Roadhouse, LongHorn, etc.; 3.5 percent), Barnes & Noble (3.3 percent) and laser tag (2.4 percent).
