Nelson Edsal Mowry Sr., 71, of Gloucester Point, died unexpectedly at his home Nov. 14, 2018.

He was a retired Senior Master Sergeant 25 years’ service in the United States Air Force. During his service to his country he served in the Vietnam War. Nelson received numerous medals including, AF Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Organizational Excellence Award, Good Conduct Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters; the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and many other outstanding awards. He served his country to the fullest and fought for his country gallantly.

He enjoyed working with his hands, building his home with detailed craftsmanship. Nelson was a member of the Okaloosa Lodge No. 312. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be missed and always remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Mowry; children, Nelson Mowry Jr. (Jenny), Scott Mowry (Lynn), Chad Mowry (Jessica) and Ben Mowry (April); mother, Marietta Mowry; grandchildren, Samantha, Jared, Clay, Nikki, McKenzie, Keara, Caitlin, Brenden and Morgan; and his sister, Ilene Gallagher (David).

Memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at the Nelson Chapel, Yorktown.
