A food drive competition between Gloucester government offices netted 3,675 pounds of food items for local food pantries. The drive was organized by Gloucester Sheriff’s Office deputies Jake Forehand and Rob Richmond, with Sheriff Darrell Warren challenging other county offices to competitively contribute. 

Forehand said the goal of the drive was 2,000 pounds of food, and an incentive was donated by Chick-fil-A, Subway, Domino’s and Pizza Hut. Each of the local restaurants provided a catered lunch for 20 persons as prizes for the top office collections.

Forehand said 18 county offices participated and contributions were measured on a pounds-per-person basis to make the competition fair for departments with fewer personnel.

Warren announced winners last Friday, with the county finance and purchasing department taking first place. The winning office collected the equivalent of 121 pounds of food for each of its eight staffers.
