Nancy Carolyn Stone, age 81, of Gloucester, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 30, 2022.

Nancy was born on Aug. 19, 1940 in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Joseph and Maggie Evans Coates. Carolyn lived in Gloucester County for many years, was a member of Union Baptist Church, and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding. She loved going to the ocean with her girls and watching people on the boardwalk. However, her true passion was being a part of the grandchildren’s school and sports events; we knew she was there because of yelling at the umpires and referees when she did not agree with their call. Nanny was the coach, umpire, referee, base coach, team supporter, and the biggest fan all in one for all of us. She was our family prayer warrior and taught us what having faith and trust in our Savior was all about. Even in her final days, she made sure to pray with us and stress how important it was to give our lives to God. She was the happiest spending time with her family, especially the children.

In addition to her parents, a sister, Jeannette Cox, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Hall (Rickey) and Karen Harvey (Barry); five grandchildren, Deserie (John), Samuel (April), Rickey, Megan (Bryan), Nikki; six great-grandchildren, Kirk, Mathew, Bayleigh, Logan, Mason, and Isaiah. A graveside service, conducted by Pastor Kevin Thompson, will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 11 a.m. in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In memory of Nancy, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. We will dearly miss her and forever be eternally grateful for all she has done.
