Also, during the spring recital, Wong, Jackson Scalf and Ben Kirwan were recognized for their participation in the Peninsula Music Teachers Association Music Marathon, which was held on April 18 at Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News. The annual event raises funds for the PMTA Music Scholarship program.
Students have people sponsor them to perform at the mall and all funds raised benefit the scholarship program. A college scholarship is presented annually to a graduating senior majoring in music whose teacher is a member of PMTA. If funds are available, scholarships are also awarded to underclassmen for summer music camps.
