Murphy earns first in state fair events

Mathews High School senior Bradley Murphy of the Gloucester Animal Science 4-H Club placed in several livestock competitions, including two first-place wins, during this year’s State Fair of Virginia, which is hosted annually in Caroline County.
Murphy showed both hogs and lambs in the competitions. He placed first in Purebred Duroc Gilts, first in Lightweight Purebred Market Hogs, second in Midweight Purebred Market Hogs and third in Purebred Berkshire Gilts. Murphy also placed seventh and eighth with his sheep in the Market Classes.
Other local participants also celebrated first-place wins. Dakota Dunlap earned first place in Purebred Registered Market Hogs and ninth in March Registered Purebred Duroc Gilts. Mason Dunlap placed first in Purebred Duroc Feeder Hogs. Lindsey Murphy captured first place in the Costume Contest with her lamb.
