Nine members of the Mobjack Rowing Association’s winter training team traveled Saturday to Catholic High School in Virginia Beach to compete in the Hampton Roads Rowing Club’s 28th annual Hampton Erg Pull. An erg pull is an indoor race done on rowing machines called ergometers. The distance for each racer is usually 2,000 meters in which the contestant rows the hardest and fastest race they are capable of. All MRA team members achieved personal records for the winter season and placed well in their events. In the Men’s Junior Under 19 event, Sam Tomcany, Zach Hudson, Alex Meier and Will Lang placed third, fourth, sixth and 21st in their race. Bryce Clarke won silver in the Under 21 event and Atticus Shursky placed 10th in his first Under 15 competition. For the girls’ team, 12-year-old Phoebe Crowder and 13-year-old Harper Tomcany swept first and second, respectively, in the Women’s Under 15 event.
