MPPDC approves $535,000 operating budget

The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission approved a $1.2 million budget for FY2012 during a meeting on May 25 at commission headquarters in Saluda.

Executive director Lewis Lawrence said that the commission’s overall budget includes approximately $600,000 in pass-through funds for the weatherization program administered by Bay Aging. The actual operating budget approved was $535,000.

The commission earlier in the meeting approved a resolution dissolving the Middle Peninsula Disability Services Board, following action by the state to shut down the previously mandated program. According to Lewis, the member localities are being asked to return their disability services contributions to MPPDC to bolster its business development initiative. Gloucester voted to earmark those funds for the commission, Lawrence said, while Mathews chose to keep the money for other county uses.
