A single-vehicle crash in Mathews on Saturday resulted in a death.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya of Virginia State Police said the crash occurred approximately 2:37 p.m. as the driver of a 1999 Ford Ranger, identified as Jason Andrew Haczewski, 37, of Poquoson, was traveling southbound on North River Road, south of Cardinal Road.

Anaya said the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree, partially ejecting the driver. Haczewski suffered life-threatening injuries and succumbed to them later in the day after transport to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital, Anaya said.

This was the second traffic fatality in Mathews County in 2022.
