MMF World War II exhibit continues to grow

The special World War II exhibit at the Mathews Maritime Foundation’s Museum on Main Street continues to grow, with new items recently loaned or donated, according to MMF spokesperson Nancy Lindgren.

While a large part of the photographs and items pertains to men and women from Mathews, she said the exhibit also includes information about WWII in general and many residents have contributed to make it an interesting display. The MMF Museum is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on request by calling 804-725-4444.

Lindgren said a Russian uniform, four hats/caps and two German uniforms were recently loaned to the MMF for the exhibit by Herbert Rockefeller. The German articles include a long coat, a short jacket with trousers and each uniform with a hat or cap. Rockefeller also loaned three Russian caps, a German U-boat officer’s hat and a German battle helmet.
