Mathews Land Conservancy has launched a new fundraising effort to pay for enclosing the building that will house the rowing and maritime education centers at Williams Wharf, marking the beginning of phase three of the William F. and Catharine K. Owens Maritime Landing project.

Enclosing the structure, which was erected and roofed in 2015 and 2016, is expected to cost $1.4 million, and the timeline for raising those funds is two years, according to a brochure about the project. Chris Bridge, who is handling publicity for the MLC, said the brochure was recently mailed to over 2,000 households in Mathews.

Construction of the walls and decks is expected to begin by mid-2019, said Bridge. Once the building is enclosed, some of the educational and recreational programs intended at the site can begin. After that, “we can focus on final building components,” says the brochure.
