Mike Gregory named Auxiliarist of the Year

Mike Gregory, a member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 66, Mathews, was awarded the Peninsula Division’s Auxiliarist of the Year Award for 2022. The Peninsula Division is composed of flotillas from Mathews, Hampton, Poquoson and Williamsburg.

Since joining the Auxiliary in 2016, Gregory has been very active and effective in supporting the mission of the Coast Guard and the boating public. He has served as Vice Flotilla and Flotilla Commander, Flotilla Staff Officer for Secretary and Information Services and attained and maintains qualifications as Crew, Coxswain, Air Crew and Air Observer, Instructor, Vessel Examiner and Program Visitor.

Gregory has completed the requirements for the highest membership status as Operational Auxiliarist (AUXOP), which requires completion of course work and examination in seven operational areas that further assist the Coast Guard in its mission. He has also offered and maintains a vessel facility in support of Auxiliary and Coast Guard surface operations.

“Over the past year, Gregory has personified the Coast Guard motto “Semper Paratus” [Always Ready] through his participation in a software development initiative, to create artificial intelligence programs that will augment Coast Guard search and rescue efforts,” said Flotilla Commander Matt Smith. “This has involved working with other Auxiliarists and Coast Guard active-duty personnel from across the country.”
