Middlesex County man arrested following string of Mathews burglaries

A Middlesex County man is in custody following several break-ins and attempted break-ins of homes in the Mathews Court House, Gwynn’s Island and Hudgins areas.

Donald Lee Grinnell, 45, of Locust Hill, was arrested on Monday and charged with a total of 11 felony counts; most of the charges related to a string of burglaries that took place between Monday, July 28 and Thursday, July 31.

The charges include three counts of breaking and entering, two counts of attempted breaking and entering, two counts of grand larceny, two counts of committing larceny of property with the intent to sell or distribute such property, and one count of possession of burglary tools.

The 11th felony charge, possession of heroin, came about after Grinnell’s car was stopped by deputies late Monday afternoon when the suspect was being served with the other warrants, according to Major J.T.
