MHS wrestlers win home quad meet; 16th at Ram Rumble

It was a busy week of competition for the Mathews High School wrestling team, beginning with a home quad match last Wednesday and concluding with a large-scale tournament over the weekend. During the home event on Jan. 14, Mathews secured three team victories, defeating Essex High School, 64-12, Northampton High School, 44-34, and Southampton High School, 54-18. Ram Rumble Following the midweek match, the team traveled to Lafayette High School to compete in the annual Ram Rumble. In a field consisting of 37 teams, Mathews placed 16th overall. Several individual wrestlers earned podium spots for their performances in their respective weight classes. Ivan Schaible led the team with a fourth-place finish in the 157 lbs. class, while Franklin Cardenas took sixth place at 132 lbs. and Salvador Cardenas took sixth place at 138 lbs.
