MHS wrestlers win at Franklin Duals; Cardenas posts 100th win

The Mathews High School wrestling team delivered a strong performance this past Saturday, securing a first-place finish in the B-pool at the Franklin Duals. The Blue Devils dominated the mat, going 5-0 on the day to take home the team trophy. The tournament was highlighted by a historic individual achievement for Salvador Cardenas, who secured his 100th career victory during the dual against Southampton. Cardenas was joined by a group of teammates who were all undefeated throughout the event: Ivan Schaible, Franklin Cardenas, Eric Cardenas, Yanni Vaziouracis and Grayson Patterson. MHS looked to defend the home mat yesterday as it hosted a quad match against Essex, Northampton and Southampton. Results from Wednesday’s match were not available at press time. The Blue Devils will also be hosting a youth wrestling night to showcase the future MHS wrestlers.
