MHS wrestlers place third in Super Regionals; Schaller crowned champion

The Mathews High School wrestling team placed third out of five teams competing in the 1A/1B Super Regional Tournament, which was held on Monday at MHS.

Tyler Schaller (145 lbs.), a returning state runner-up from last season, was the only Blue Devil champion on the day. Mathews also had four others finish as runners-up in their respective weight classes—Alexis Deagle (106 lbs.), Joshua Rosadino (113 lbs.), Cody Deagle (138 lbs.) and Brady Wright (182 lbs.) Rosadino had placed fourth at last year’s state wrestling tournament.

Connor Beattie (132 lbs.) placed third, also securing a spot in the state tournament. The top four finishers in each weight class advance. Noah Wright (160 lbs.) came in fifth.

Riverheads was crowned 2021 1A/B champions with a score of 93.5 points. Franklin came in second with 42 points. Mathews placed third, garnering 25.5 points. Rappahannoc...
