The Mathews High School wrestling team secured a second-place finish at the Lancaster Duals on Saturday, ending the event with a 4-1 record in team competition. The Blue Devils took a strong lead winning, 42-30, over the host Lancaster Red Devils, and continued their momentum with decisive wins against Warwick (58-24), Rappahannock (61-4) and Middlesex (59-18). The team’s only loss came in a 35-48 match against Tabb High School, which claimed the top spot. Individual performances were highlighted by three wrestlers who finished the tournament undefeated. Ivan Schaible, Salvador Cardenas and Franklin Cardenas each went 6-0 on the day, contributing maximum points to the team’s overall score. In addition to the undefeated leaders, Mathews saw strong contributions from Jayden Boyd and Roane Gray, who both finished with 5-2 records.
