After a two-week hiatus caused by weather cancellations, the Blue Devils boys’ basketball teams traveled Tuesday to compete against King William. The return to the court didn’t go well for Mathews, as JV and varsity teams fell to the host Cavaliers. JV Devils It was a back-and-forth game the entire way in the JV matchup. Mathews trailed by one point at the end of the first quarter, 11-10, and the Cavaliers held that narrow edge at the half, 24-23. After the half, King William kept the pace, but the Devils came out sluggish and struggled to capitalize on their shots. King William was able to pull ahead, 38-25, at the end of the third quarter. Although the Devils outscored the Cavaliers in the fourth, it wasn’t enough to replace the deficit. The final score of the game was 48-38, King William.
