MHS track kicks off 2019 season

The Mathews High School track and field team kicked off its spring season last Wednesday with a meet at Charles City High School.

The girls’ team placed fourth overall out of seven teams, while the MHS boys placed first overall out of a field of eight schools.

On the JV team, Sarah Taylor competed in the 300m hurdles with a time of 56.47 seconds, jumped 4’10” in the high jump, and 11’9” in long jump. Cameron McDonald competed in the 800m run with a time of 2:49 and the 400m dash in 1:07.

For the varsity girls, Aliyah Henderson ran the 100m dash in 14.99 seconds. Sarah Fitzgerald competed in the 100m hurdles in 20.92 seconds. Victoria Palaimo competed in the 100m hurdles in 22.97 seconds and jumped 4’6” in high jump which qualified her for the state championship meet.
