In the final regular season meet before tournament competition, the Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams had a number of individual standouts, as well as the boys’ 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.
The MHS squads traveled to Charles City last Thursday with a total of eight schools competing. Standouts among the Lady Devils included Nora Suthard, who placed first in the triple jump (34’0.5”) and second in the 300-meter hurdles (55.18 seconds) and long jump (15’7”); Elizabeth Moore, who placed first in the 1,600-meter run (6:05.81); Shaylan Deese, who came in second in the high jump (4’6”) and Dynasty Young, who ran the 200-meter dash in 31.02 seconds for a third-place finish.
