MHS tennis posts 2 wins

The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team posted two wins and one loss over the last several weeks.
On April 9, the Lady Blue Devils defeated Lancaster, 8-1. Leading the way was #1 singles seed Lyla Duff. Her win was followed singles wins by Liberti Carter, Ella Ward, Jayda Thomas, Delaney Boatman and Rayann Helbig. Doubles wins were posted by the teams of Ward/Boatman and Marissa Hudgins and Charlotte Bailey.
On April 14, Mathews traveled to West Point and came away with an 8-1 win. Singles winners were Duff, Carter, Ward, Boatman and Helbig. Doubles winners were Duff/Carter, Ward/Boatman and Thomas/Helbig.
Last Wednesday, Mathews fell to the defending state champion Rappahannock Raiders, 9-0, but was a very competitive match, according to MHS head coach Jon Hatch.
