MHS runners place 1st, 2nd in region; advance to state

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed first and second, respectively, in the VHSL Region 1A Championship, which was held last Thursday at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg.
Mathews boys won their meet with a team score of 16, which is the lowest point total in the history of the program. Cameron Stearns came in first place overall with a time of 18:23. This was Stearns’s third individual championship in a row. Josh Rosadino placed second overall with a time of 19:14. Rosadino has earned all-region honors for four consecutive years.
Landon Green and Carson Brown finished in third and fourth place with times of 20:00 and 20:23, respectively. Next for Mathews was Andrew Greve finishing at 21:20, followed by Dylan White (21:28) and Brian Robinson (22:09).
The MHS girls’ team finished in second place with a team score of 45. First for Mathews was Adelle Hudgins who finished in eighth place overall with a time of 25:45. Melody Smith and Zoe Camp followed Hu...
