MHS runners excel at Milestat.com Invitational

The Mathews High School cross country teams ran well on Saturday, with many athletes finding new personal records, as they competed in their first invitational race of the season.

The MHS boys and girls traveled to Pole Green Park in Henrico to compete in the Milestat.com Invitational. Mathews’ first event was the Varsity Boys’ B race, held in the early afternoon.

A maximum of eight runners was allowed per team in the varsity races, which consisted of 30 teams. Cameron Stearns led the team in a strong fashion, finishing with a time of 16:45 to earn eighth place overall in a field of more than 200 runners. Will Hutcheson (17:44) was next for the Blue Devils, followed by Nasir Thomas (18:01), Austin Wood (18:25) and Josh Rosadino (18:33). The remainder of the MHS squad consisted of Sean Carlson (18:39), Isaiah Bivins (18:46) and Calvin Kramer (18:46). The team performed well, earning 14th place overall with 352 points.
