The Mathews High School cross country team held its first meet last Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Beaverdam Park and took first place against King William, Washington & Lee, Essex and Northumberland.
Cameron Stearns came in first place for the boys’ team with a time of 17:51. Following Stearns were Seth James in second place with a time of 19:11 and Carson Brown in third place (19:45).
Andrew Greve ran a 20:57, followed by JV runner Henry Sowers (21:13), Adam Dustin (21:20), Jaxon McDonald (21:22), Grayson Camp (21:40), Chance Higginbotham (JV) (22:32), Zachary Salvadori (JV) (23:36), Adam Dustin (JV) (23:50), Elias Hidalgo (JV) (24:06), Noah Hurst (JV) (24:20), James Daniels (JV) (25:23), Adam Greve (JV) (28:28), James Allen Morgan (JV) (29:42) and Asher Raub (JV) (30:04).
For the girls, Adelle Hudgins came in first for Mathews with a time of 24:03, followed by Zoe Camp in second with a time of 24:34 and Anna Raub in third (25:04).
Melody Smith ran a 25:45, followed by Lilly Bane (25:53)...
