Ten people will be welcomed into the Mathews High School Hall of Fame on Friday night at an induction ceremony at the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium. The program begins at 6 p.m. and the public is invited.
This year’s class of inductees includes eight athletes and two contributors.
Athletes named to the Hall of Fame include James Darden Callis (Class of 1961, football, basketball and track), Gerald “Jerry” Lee Morgan Jr. (Class of 1967, football, basketball and baseball), Calvin “Dale” Garrett (Class of 1967, football, basketball, baseball and track), Leonard Wade Elliot (Class of 1973, football and baseball), Ricky Montaque (Class of 1986, basketball—1,000 career points), Susan Vogel (Class of 1988, basketball—1,000 career points, and track), Justin Adams (Class of 2016, cross country and track, state champion) and Jonathan Lewis (Class of 1995, wrestling state champion).
