MHS golf

The Mathews High School golf team, led by head coach Wayne Lewis, kicked off its season Monday with a home match against Northumberland High School at Piankatank River Golf Club, Hartfield. The team fell short of the win with a total score of 213 to Northumberland’s 199. MHS senior Thomas Hubbard led the team with the lowest score of 43 on nine holes. He was followed by senior Ethan Long (54), senior Aidan West (56), freshman Bryce West (60), senior Connor Beattie (66), and junior Soles Small (69). Junior varsity team member Chase Ambrose earned a 57 on his first match out. Above, Hubbard prepares to hit the ball.
