JV softball
Mathews JV softball season came to an end last Thursday night at Middlesex. The team fell to the JV Lady Chargers, 14-0.
Kate Small collected the only hit of the game for Mathews, but the team was unable to produce a run. Keira Cannon took the loss on the rubber, allowing eight hits, striking out two and walking seven batters.
“While the final game did not go our way tonight, the team has grown over the last few months and we could not be prouder of their achievements.” said coach Tim Tillage.
Season ending batting averages were impressive with Natalie Davis: .351 and Keira Cannon: .333 coming in on top. Cannon also stepped off the rubber for the final time this season after leading Mathews in every game as the sole pitcher on the team.
“It’s been a hard-fought season, and I know she left her all out there. Watching her grow on the field with her team has been one of my greatest honors, we are so proud,” said Ann Marie Haywood of Cannon.
