The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team defeated the visiting Northampton Yellow Jackets last Wednesday, 8-1.
The Blue Devils were led by top-seeded Lyla Duff’s 8-2 win, followed by Liberti Carter (8-0), Ella Ward (8-1), Rayann Helbig (8-2), Jayda Thomas (8-0) and Charlotte Bailey (8-3). Duff and Carter took the #1 doubles match 8-0, followed by Ward and Delaney Boatman (8-0). The #3 doubles featured Marissa Hudgins and freshman Emily Moughon in a well-played match before falling, 8-5.
Mathews was scheduled to travel to Middlesex Wednesday.
