After a rough round of games in the past week, including a 45-39 loss to Northumberland on Monday, Dec. 15, and the following Tuesday a tough 44-28 loss to Colonial Beach, the Lady Blue Devils were ready to take on the Middlesex Chargers at their home court and head into the holiday break with a win. In the varsity-only contest, Mathews came away with the win on the road, 40-37. The Chargers were high in spirits, with their pep band and cheerleaders getting the crowd loud and rowdy, though the Blue Devils also had a spirited crowd rooting the girls on. This set up the game for a thrilling matchup between the two teams. The first quarter of last Thursday’s game started off strong, with the Devils winning the opening tipoff.
